It would allow him to be funny and personable (two of his big onscreen strengths) while making him part of a larger ensemble to play off of with the staff of The Daily Planet. Perry White, on the other hand, fits his star persona to a 't.' It matches his age - allowing him to grow into the role through multiple appearances - while providing Superman: Legacy's Clark with an experienced mentor role that plays into Pratt's long history as Star-Lord.
